Sacred Threads- Quilting Retreat
June 9-13, 2011
September 8-12, 2011

Thread is essential for quilting and is also a symbol of connectedness.  Many threads are woven together into cloth, and typically, many different fabrics are used in one quilt.  We use yard and yards of thread and cut that thread countless times.  In a quilt, each new seam covers the unknotted end of the last seam, making every piece and every seam secure and part of the whole.  Thread becomes for us a reminder of individual sacredness and of the many incredible ways that we are woven together in the fabric of life.  This retreat is designed for you to work on the projects of your choice – when you want.  Join us on this journey.

Choir Camp
August 5-8, 2011

Choir Camp at Wallowa Lake is always a wonderful experience for adults of every level of musical ability:  music and singing workshops, talent show, time to explore the beautiful Wallowa Lake area and practice for the our choir camp performance presented to the local community on the last night of camp. We are thrilled to have the dynamic Dr. Peter Wordelman from Eastern Oregon University as our choral director again this year. Encourage fellow singers from your church and community, and you’ll leave with enough musical selections and ideas to enliven your choir at home throughout the year.

Handbell Camp
July 30-August 2, 2011

Handbell Camp is open to those who would like to learn how to ring bells and to those experienced with 2-3 octave bells. Campers will learn how to “ring together in harmony” using the music provided.  Workshops will be available to teach special kinds of ringing. A musical program will be presented at the climax of camp.

Fishtrap Writer Conference
July 10-17, 2011

Fishtrap began in 1988 with a Summer Writers Gathering at Wallowa Lake Camp. Over one hundred writers, editors, teachers, librarians and readers spent a July weekend reading, listening, and discussing "Western Writing and Eastern Publishing." A New York agent, a New York publisher, and Western writers Kim Stafford, Ursula LeGuin, Jim Welch, George Venn, and Craig Lesley kicked off that first Fishtrap. And each summer since a like number has gathered to listen and respond to other outstanding Western writers address the pressing issues of writing and living in the West.

Since that time, Fishtrap has added a series of summer writing workshops; a Fellowship Program; the Winter Fishtrap Gathering; Writers-in-Residence; and a writers' retreat on the Imnaha River as well as numerous readings, a lecture series, Friday college classes, and writing workshops throughout the year. Though these activities are varied, the goal has been and is to serve emerging writers and writing.

Fishtrap is an entity that operates independently from Wallowa Lake Camp. For more information, visit www.fishtrap.org.
